Earlier this year we were excited to announce our sponsorship of the Dance School of the Year Awards, and show our support for schools and teachers who’re doing amazing work through dance, nurturing young dancers and minds of the future. The wonderful thing about these awards is that it’s not about the talent of the performers in the school; it’s about the teacher and the culture, environment, and opportunities they create for their students.
We felt the Groove Child® Dance Syllabus simply HAD to become a sponsor of this important event, as we share a similar ethos to that of DSOTY; “that dance teachers should be applauded and celebrated. So much more than just a teacher – they are almost a substitute parent to many of their students as they are role models, mentors and social workers, offering support, stability and a disciplined approach to life…”
Dance School of the Year Awards was founded in 2013 by Anne Walker MBE in order to celebrate the achievements of Dance Teachers everywhere.
This annual Award is open to theatre dance teachers wherever they teach and is designed to encourage teachers to realise what amazing achievements they have made within their school.
The closing date for this year’s entries has recently passed and no doubt, as we speak, the judges are beginning the busy job of pouring over applications and watching supporting footage of each and every entry. An inspiring task for anyone.
Fear not! You don’t have to have entered to attend the event; many teachers attend the first year purely out of intrigue, and to see the calibre of the entries with a view to entering their school the following year. Either way, we guarantee you’ll leave enthused and inspired.
We can’t wait to share in the celebrations when the winners are revealed at the awards ceremony on 27th July 2018. We’ve already booked our tickets and accommodation – all being held at the delightful Woodbury Park Hotel in Devon – and we plan to make the most of the day beforehand by booking into the Aura Spa on site!

It’s the perfect way to begin the summer holidays; enjoying a little pampering after a very busy term. We recommend all teachers attending take time to indulge whilst there and make good use of the hotel’s facilities, in preparation for the celebratory evening ahead!
Tickets are on sale now from annewalker.com (simply contact Anne Walker directly to book) for the glamorous DSOTY black tie awards ceremony.
It’s a fantastic and fun evening for any theatre dance teacher, and an opportunity to hear about the wonderful work that’s continually happening in the dance teaching community.
Plus! You have the awesome opportunity after the ceremony to ‘let your bun down’ and have a boogie to the live band (no choreography required!)
Groove Child wishes all of this year’s DSOTY entries the very best of luck, and we look forward to seeing you there x
